about tattooed potatoes
and other clues

Ellen Raskin is most widely known for her Newberry Medal winning book The Westing Game, but she had already published and illustrated many books before that book was published in 1978. However, The Westing Game is a masterpiece and a great read. But due to that huge success, so many of her other books were overlooked.

One such book is The Tattooed Potato and Other Clues, published in 1975, and the subject of this fanlisting. This book is about an artist (student) named Dickory Dock who becomes an assistant to an eccentric artist named Garson living in Greenwich Village.

Mysteries upon mysteries permeate this book. Garson and Dickory begin studying cases for a police chief, taking the names of Inspector Nosrag and Sergeant Kod (their names backwards).

As the story develops, they solve many things, and Dickory grows in her thinking. She ends up seeing many faces of Garson and gets involved in an even bigger mystery than she expected.

This is a great mystery book. Raskin is a fantastic storyteller and doesn't let you down in this one. This book will always be a favorite!
